Two fake soldiers arrested over murder of Police Sergeant in Lagos (photos)

The murder of a Police Sergeant has been linked to two deserted soldiers, as they were arrested by the Lagos state police command.

 

The Spokeman for the State Police Command who's name is Bala Elkana, reported on May 16, 2020 that detectives from Ilemba Hausa Police Station arrested a man named Kehinde Elijah who is 45 years old of that lives at Ibiyeye Street, Whitehouse Bus Stop in Okokomaiko, Lagos.

 

Kehinde Elijah is said to be among the three suspects who are wanted by the Police for violent crimes. Four pairs of military fatigues were recovered in his house. He claimed to have deserted the military in 2015 when he was deployed to the Northeast to fight insurgency. Since Deployment, he said he has been in Ojo area, where he has been terrorizing members of the public.

 

Ezeh Frank Joseph was the second suspect, he was arrested in his house (apartment) at Imude Pako Area, Era road, Ajangbadi, Lagos on Sunday May 17, 2020. Joseph claimed to have deserted the military while he was undergoing the basic military training.

 

Bala Elkana who is Spokeman for the State Police Command said the men were arrested for the shooting and killing of Onalaja Onajide, who is a Police Sergeant who was attached to Ilemba Hausa Division.

 

The shooting happened on May 10, 2020 at about 9:40pm when an unknown gunmen fired gunshots at the Divisional Police Officer, Ilemba Hausa and the Station Guard, Sergeant Onalaja Onajide as reported. The Station DPO was reported to have survived the gunshots but the Station Guard died from the pellets wound. 

 

Bala Elkana reported that the first suspect was earlier at the Station to solicit fot the release of his motorcycle (okada) which was impounded by the Police Officers for violating the ban on the use of commercial Motorcycles in the state. As he was not happy with the DPOs refusal to release the motorcycle to him, he decided to launch the deadly attack, by firing at them.

 

As reported by the Police spoke man, he said the case is still undergoing critical investigation and the suspects will be soon charged to court.
