Ticks discovered in Australia.
Snake catchers in Australia rescued rescued a carpet python which was covered in hundreds of ticks (more than 500 ticks).
The snake, which was believed to be ill and was coated in the parasites (ticks), was lying in a backyard swimming pool on the Gold Coast in Queensland.
A professional handler removed the snake and took it for treatment at a wildlife clinic.
The Vetinary Doctor at the clinic removed more than 500 ticks on the snake (phython) body.
The snake was nicknamed "Nike", and has a "nasty infection". This may have caused his immobility, allowing the ticks to take advantage of him," the Currumbin Wildlife Hospital said in a statement posted online.
The wildlife service said it hoped to release the python back into the wild in coming months.
Ticks can cause anaemia - a deficiency in red blood cells - by feeding on the blood of a host animal.
